You don’t have to live at the spa, spend money on expensive skincare products or change your beauty routine to have a glowing, healthy complexion. Our skin types may vary – dry, oily or combination – but as our skin is exposed to toxins and sun damage, our skin loses its resilience, elasticity and volume. We can control and minimize the signs of skin damage in our everyday life. Here are 5 recommended tips for flawless skin (that won’t break the bank)!
DRINK WATER & HYDRATE
There are many health benefits of drinking water; one of the best is to help your skin to purify the impurities. Water cleanses the body and eliminates the toxins and waste. It hydrates the body and removes excess oils and dirt. Drink at least 2 liters per day to give the skin a bright, noticeable change in less than a week.
APPLY SUNSCREEN & WEAR SUN PROTECTION
It’s summer and this one is no doubt hard to resist. Don’t duck from the sun this summer – get your vitamin D! When considering outdoor activities such as swimming or hiking, avoid the sun from 10am to 2pm as the UV rays are potent during this time frame, and over exposure could result in signs of aging and loss of moisture. The morning sun from 7am to 9am is perfect for the skin. And, remember to apply sunscreen with SPF above 45 while going outdoors.
EAT HEALTHY & CLEAN
Everything healthy starts from your diet. Ever heard of the phrase, “You are what you eat?” This is true in skincare 101. Skin impurities result from digestive problems, and taking in the right amount of micro-nutrients and vitamins is great for clear skin. Opt for natural protein foods such as fish, nuts, white meat, grains like buckwheat, brown rice and quinoa, vegetables like broccoli, tomato and beets.
Eat clean, and avoid processed and man-made food. Omega3 fatty acids are great to reduce inflammation, and can be found in walnuts, salmon and soybeans. Keep your skin glowing with more intake of fruits and vegetables!
Here are a few recommendations for fruits and veggies – all of which are included in JennyBean_Love‘s Homemade Skin Glowing Detox Smoothie. Each of these are essential in improving skin tone and texture.
Blueberries are rich in antioxidants and will help eliminate the body of toxins and clear up acne. As an added bonus, they help prevent premature aging.
Kale is rich in vitamin K and antioxidants. With anti-inflammatory benefits, it helps you decrease bloating which helps prevent puffiness under the eyes and in the face. As an added bonus, it also has sulfur content which helps reduce redness and increases blood circulation in the body.
Spinach is rich in antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin B, C, E, potassium, iron and magnesium.
Rolled Oats is rich in magnesium, calcium and B vitamins. Most importantly, it has three times the protein of brown rice with less starch and more fiber. As an added bonus, it has properties to balance the skin’s PH, which can relieve itching and dry skin.
Pomegranates is rich in polyphenol antioxidants, which is used to fight off free radicals in the body and regulate blood flow in the skin. As and added bonus, a whole pomegranate a day or 8-ounce of juice will do wonders and give your cheeks a beautiful, rosy glow.
DETOX & CLEANSE
Dullness of the skin, pimples and acne are often caused by excessive accumulation of toxins and waste products in the body and it is important to flush out these water products with the help of detoxification.
Detoxing helps maintain the pH of the body at a healthy alkaline state. Use organic produce as part of your detox diet, and stay away from sugar, alcohol and salty snacks for at least 5 days to give the skin a healthy break and prevent water retention.
CLEANSE & EXFOLIATE
Exfoliation is life. Its purpose is to remove the dead skin cells from the uppermost layer of the skin, allowing for fresh skin to resurface. In the process of removing dead skin cells, you naturally even your skin tone, remove impurities such as dirt and oil within pores, and prevent acne. Exfoliate once or twice a week, regularly with a gentle cleanser or exfoliant.
